After several distractions and responsibilities getting in the way, Wolverine will finally become the Marvel Universe’s newest vampire hunter. While the beginning of Wolverine’s latest series saw Logan prepared to hunt down vampires and their leader Dracula, several different events pulled the X-Man away from his hunt. Regardless, a new solicitation from Marvel Comics reveals that Wolverine will be resuming his mission in earnest, ready to take out as many vampires as he can so they can no longer take advantage of the powerful blood they robbed from him.
Wolverine’s most recent run-in with Dracula and his minions occurred in Wolverine #5 from writer Benjamin Percy with art by Viktor Bogdanovic. After a fight with Omega Red went south, the villain froze Logan and delivered him to Dracula. Logan later learns that Dracula has been secretly building and growing his army in the northern parts of the U.S and Canada, targeting forgotten small towns with closed mines and mills that no one will miss. His minions then truck the new vampires into larger cities in order for them to feast and create more vampires for Dracula to command in a vicious cycle, seemingly building their strength and numbers to at some point go to war with the mutant nation of Krakoa. Thanks to the captured Logan, Dracula and his top agents are also able to take his unique blood and use it to become daywalkers, making them that much more powerful.
Once Logan escaped in Wolverine #5, he teamed up with young vampires resisting Dracula’s control to take out the nearest vampire incursion in Ontario. However, while he was going to continue his vampire hunt, Logan got interrupted by Thor’s request for aid in Fortnite’s Nexus War, which was apparently quasi-canonical to the events of the Marvel Universe. Then, Wolverine was chosen as one of Krakoa’s champions for X of Swords. Once that was over, Logan has most recently been trying to save his old friend and teammate Maverick from Weapon X. Obviously, there’s been a lot that Logan has had to deal with since Wolverine #5, but a new solicitation for Wolverine #12 indicates that the vampire hunt is back on. Here’s the cover art and synopsis from Marvel Comics:
The synopsis indicates the Wolverine will be re-teaming up with Louise, the French vampire hunter of the Nightguard whom he met in Wolverine #1, and the duo will be taking the fight all the way to the top, facing Dracula himself. While there is the inherent risk that Wolverine’s involvement will only provide the vampires with additional opportunities to steal his blood and remove their weaknesses, Logan can’t help but feel responsible and that he has to be the one to take them down. In any case, here’s hoping Wolverine is up to the challenge as Marvel’s next great vampire hunter when Wolverine #12 comes to comic book store shelves this May.
