There’s a lot to explore and discover in Valheim, the hit survival game from Iron Gate Studio. With its connections to Viking mythology and high fantasy, there are definitely plenty of strange and supernatural things for players to find. One of these includes the branches of a giant tree that spread across the sky. So, just what is this giant tree supposed to be – and is there a way to reach the top?
The world of Valheim is often dangerous and awe-inspiring. With nine biomes to explore, and mythological monsters like trolls and drakes to fight, there are frequently surprises in store for players. Valheim‘s world is also mysterious, and one of the game’s biggest mysteries might just be the giant tree that can be spotted in the sky, which appears to stretch across the ends of the earth.
This tree is most likely Yggdrasil, also known as the World Tree, from Norse mythology. Valheim frequently uses aspects of Viking myth and folklore, so it makes perfect sense that branches from Yggdrasil can be spotted in the game. Of course, the biggest question on many fans’ minds is whether or not the tree can be reached – and how to do it.
The branches of Yggdrasil can be spotted in various biomes and locations all across Valheim‘s map. These branches appear to lead far away, but they do come down. Because of this, many players have tried to sail toward the base of the branches in order to climb up the tree. Unfortunately, at this time, it doesn’t appear possible to reach Yggdrasil and climb its branches.
Players who sail to the world’s edge in Valheim will simply fall off the edge and die, forcing them to respawn. So, it doesn’t appear to be possible to reach Yggdrasil yet. However, Valheim is still in early access via Steam, so perhaps a future update will allow players to climb up the giant tree’s branches eventually.
While some players have claimed to have reached the top of the branches using mods or cheats, there’s no official way to get to Yggdrasil’s branches in Valheim right now. But for anyone wondering what the giant tree in the sky is, it’s most definitely the World Tree, Yggdrasil, which serves as a connection between worlds. It’s still a pretty cool bit of Norse myth to find in Valheim, even if the tree can’t be reached yet.
