Weaponizing Godzilla Once Unleashed A Kaiju Army

Warning! Spoilers for Godzilla: The Half-Century War below!

The classic kaiju Godzilla is one of the most powerful forces in all of pop culture. With enormous stature, power, and atomic breath, Godzilla is next to impossible to take down, especially by humans. However, in Godzilla: The Half-Century War, one scientist figured out how to weaponize Godzilla’s destructive nature – while inadvertently awakening and bringing more powerful kaiju’s to Earth in the process.

Godzilla: The Half-Century War (2012) was an epic miniseries from James Stokoe that focused on the giant kaiju’s destruction from his first arrival in Japan in the mid-1950s to more than 50 years later – all through the eyes of Lieutenant Ota Murakami. In this story, Godzilla is as big of a terrifying force as he’s ever been, demolishing Japan and its surrounding area. But, when a scientist builds a device that transmits a signal to Godzilla (and other kaiju’s) that helps direct where he goes, it’s later used so that the King of Monsters can become a living weapon whose chaos is sold to whoever can afford it.

In the miniseries, scientist Brandon Deverich developed a new technology that was supposed to help keep Godzilla in control, as his Psionic Transmitters would send signals to the kaiju, helping the Earth Defense Force guide the monster away from high impact areas. However, after Devrich went rogue he decided to sell the Psiconic Transmitters to the highest bidder. In the series third issue, Deverich describes the Psionic Transmitters to buyers as the best way to “eradicate foes by tossing a controlled natural disaster their way,” without the nuclear fallout. Using the transmitter, he successfully weaponized Godzilla and other kaijus.

Unfortunately for the planet, there was one hitch with Deverich’s transmitters. While it attracted Godzilla to wherever the device was emitting signals, it also attracted other monsters. It’s revealed that Megalon, Mothra, Rodan, Ebirah, Hedroah, and Battra are all summoned wherever the transmitter is used. Even worse, it wasn’t just monsters on Earth that were summoned by the transmitter as Deverich made the device’s signal so strong that it accidentally summoned SpaceGodzilla.

Ultimately, the Psionic Trigger would harm the planet more than it ever could have helped. Once Deverich decides to use it for his own financial gain, he opened the doors for monsters across the galaxy to come to Earth. While it would take a black hole from the Dimension Tide weapon to get rid of the kaiju’s, a large majority of them never would have been awakened in the first place if it wasn’t for Deverich’s selfishness. Trying to profit off Godzilla was a horrible idea that backfired tremendously.
