Of every game featured at Sony’s most recent State of Play, the biggest surprise was probably Final Fantasy 7 Remake: Intergrade, an enhanced version of FF7 Remake for the PlayStation 5. The PS5 version of the game will also include a DLC chapter starring Yuffie, one of the main characters from the original game’s cast. So, will this new Yuffie DLC be available for PS4 owners as well? Here’s everything to know.
For now, FF7 Remake: Intergrade is a PS5 exclusive. The original FF7 Remake from last year was a timed exclusive; however, PlayStation’s timed exclusivity is running out. Still, the game was a massive hit when it released, so millions of fans already own FF7 Remake on PS4. Thankfully, a PS5 upgrade will be available for free for anyone who owns the game already and wants to experience the enhanced version on PlayStation 5.
However, the Yuffie DLC that’s a part of FF7 Remake: Intergrade will not be a part of the free upgrade, so it will have to be purchased separately. Because of this, many fans were worried the DLC wouldn’t be available to PS4 users. Unfortunately, that appears to be the case – since it looks like the Yuffie DLC will only be available on PlayStation 5.
While getting to play as Yuffie during a bonus episode of FF7 Remake sounds pretty exciting, the new content won’t be available on PS4. The reason for this appears to be that Yuffie’s episode is optimized for the PS5, so it won’t run on the PlayStation 4 with the original FF7 Remake.
Of course, this is understandably frustrating to many Final Fantasy fans who own a PS4 and want to experience the new FF7 Remake content. Given that PlayStation 5 shortages continue to persist, and that many prospective buyers are still able to secure one, it’s especially odd that the Yuffie DLC is only available with FF7 Remake: Intergrade on PS5. There’s always a chance Square Enix will change this, although the odds seem pretty slim right now. There’s a good chance the company is using the Yuffie DLC to incentivize sales on the PlayStation 5, and as FF7 Remake becomes available on more platforms, the Yuffie DLC will be a way for Sony to maintain a bit of exclusivity (at least, for now).
The Yuffie DLC episode that comes as a part of Final Fantasy 7 Remake: Intergrade looks very promising. Unfortunately, it’s only available on PS5 right now, which means people won’t be able to play it on PS4.
