Every Destiny 2 season implements some new weapons for Guardians to add to their arsenal. From sidearms to rocket launchers and exotic weapons, Bungie’s looter-shooter is filled with various armaments with which players can cause some damage. Season of the Chosen continues the trend of including new tools of destruction for fans, and the Retrofuturist shotgun is one such asset.
As one of the newest shotguns in Destiny 2: Beyond Light, the Retrofuturist is yet another opportunity for collectors to add to their collection and shotgun enthusiasts to include another close-range weapon in their loadout. While some weapons require players to trudge through a series of tedious quests to unlock them, the Retrofuturist only requires fans to get as far as unlocking the Prismatic Recaster to decode Umbral Engrams in the Season of the Chosen story.
The Retrofuturist can be obtained by using the Prismatic Recaster aboard the H.E.L.M. (the new social area in Destiny 2’s Season of the Chosen). To gain access to the H.E.L.M. and the Prismatic Recaster, Guardians need to complete the season’s introductory mission, which tasks them with accomplishing their first Battleground. While playing through the season’s main questline, players will receive a quest step that requires them to use the Prismatic Recaster on the H.E.L.M.
Once the Recaster has been unlocked, fans can focus any Umbral Engram they find into a Chosen Arms Focused Umbral Engram. Doing this guarantees gamers will receive a legendary weapon implemented during Season of the Chosen. This is the players’ best shot at getting Retrofuturist. Umbral Engrams, of course, can be looted in any of Destiny 2’s content, whether completing patrols, playlist activities, or completing quests.
So far, however, the most lucrative and efficient method of farming Umbral Engrams is by completing Battlegrounds. If players socket an Etched Challenger Medallion into their Hammer of Proving, they will be able to unlock one of three bonus chests at the end of the Battleground alongside the main chest to which the entire fireteam has access. Both chests have a chance of rewarding players with an Umbral Engram.
Completing Battlegrounds, opening two chests at the end of them, and taking any collected Umbral Engrams to the Prismatic Recaster to focus them into Chosen Arms Focused Engrams to then decode them is the most efficient method of trying to farm the Retrofuturist shotgun in Destiny 2.
Destiny 2 is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
