FF7 Remake Intergrade’s PS5 Graphical Upgrades Detailed

Square Enix has revealed more details on how Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade for PS5 will be an upgrade compared to the PS4 version. All new information and screenshots of the recently announced FF7 Remake Intergrade have been released, including all the specifications on the graphical updates in detail.

Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade is the latest edition of the Final Fantasy VII game, the cult classic JRPG from Square Enix. Originally released for PlayStation and Windows, FF7 follows the story of Cloud Strife, a super-soldier turned mercenary battling alongside an eco-terrorism group against the megacorporation Shinra who are intent on draining the plant for energy and conducting evil magic experiments on human subjects. Since 1997, FF7 has been re-released a number of times, with the latest edition being a full remaster that lengthens the story, requiring Square Enix to split it into multiple parts. Only the first part of the remake has been released so far.

As a new generation console, the PS5 is far more technically powerful than it’s predecessors, able to even support 8k resolution once games begin hitting this technical milestone. Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade intends to take advantage of all of these upgrades, with the PS5 version adding several new elements (via Gematsu). The PS5 version features an all-new Graphics Mode which will prioritize 4K resolution wherever able, combined with the Performance Mode which prioritizes a smooth 60 frames per second, the game has been upgraded significantly.

The PS5 version also features a number of enhancements to some of the graphical features, including lighting, fog effects, textures, and the addition of a new photo mode. The lighting in all the scenes has been improved, with dynamic lights now casting shadows and bringing new light to Midgar. The fog effects have also been enhanced, creating an eerie and forbidding tone to the underground and sewer zones. Some of the textures have also been upgraded, replacing lower-detailed textures from the PS4 edition. The upgraded version also takes advantage of the new PS5 DualSense controller, adding in haptic feedback in response to the gameplay on screen.

Additionally, this version of the game will feature a bonus episode of content starring Yuffie Kisaragi during her time before joining the party. Those who bought the PS4 edition of Final Fantasy VII Remake and own a PS5 can get a free upgrade to play the game on their PS5. the save data from the PS4 version can also be moved over through the cloud servers. The extra Yuffie episode will have to be bought separately on the PlayStation store.

While Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade is set to release later this year, there is no news as of yet on when the next part of the story will release, only that it is currently in development. The remake only covers the original plot as far as the gang leaving the city of Midgar, which is really only the beginning of the story. Cloud and his friends still have many more adventures ahead of them, but when players can expect to play through these segments is still unknown.

Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade is scheduled for release in June 2021 for the PS5.
