With much of the Otherworld still unexplored, Fate: The Winx Saga could introduce new lands in season 2, such as Zenith, Netflix’s version of Wakanda from Black Panther. Zenith is the homeworld for Tecna, a missing original character who has yet to be seen in Netflix’s adaptation of the Winx Club. Tecna, a fairy who can control technology, is one of the founding members of the group. Her presence was sorely missed by fans in season 1. If Tecna appears in season 2, Fate: The Winx Saga could also explore her technology-rich home, a society that prizes high intelligence.
In the Nickelodeon cartoon, Zenith is a kind of utopia. The people there enjoy a high standard of living because of their use of advanced technology. Like Wakanda, the wealth, comforts and reimgs of Zenith are all results of machines and inventions that people use in their daily life. The people there use science to their advantage. In Zenith, the ability to multitask is valued and the metric system is standard.
With many fans criticizing Fate: The Winx Saga for its changes to the cartoon’s main characters, including the elimination of Tecna from the cast, it’s possible the fairy could appear in season 2. If Tecna does become part of the main storyline, Netflix could also benefit from setting an episode or two in her homeworld. Marvel’s Wakanda was attractive to audiences because it introduced them to an ideal version of society, showing what is possible in a world free of colonialism, racism and inequality. Zenith could appear as a similar paradise, showing what’s possible in a world free of corruption, classism and war.
Much of the action in Fate: The Winx Saga season 1 takes place inside the walls of Alfea or in the surrounding forest, just outside the barrier. At the same time, the show establishes a world outside Alfea — Bloom and Beatrix travel to Aster Dale mid-season, while Stella’s mother Queen Luna travels to the school from Solaria. With the rules of the magical realm now established, season 2 can continue exploring the Otherworld by having the characters travel to other continents and cities. Since the audience hasn’t seen much of the world so far, there are infinite possibilities when it comes to visiting new locales.
Zenith in particular has a lot of untapped potential. Not only is it Tecna’s home, but as a technology-centered society, shots of the realm could include stunning visuals and special effects. The portrayal of Wakanda in Black Panther includes unique costumes, beautiful CGI skylines and on-location scenes in forests and at waterfalls. An imaginative recreation of Zenith could include similarly detailed scenes that show how the magical society has evolved along a completely different track from societies on Earth.
Characters from Zenith could also provide a new perspective for the heroes of Fate: The Winx Saga, the same way Wakandan characters like King T’Challa provide contrasting perspectives for the Avengers. In many ways, Tecna is similar to Black Panther’s Shuri, the 16-year-old prodigy in charge of the country’s technology development. Like Shuri, Tecna has a high IQ, is a rational thinker who keeps a cool head in a crisis, and provides the Winx Club team with strategic and tactical insights. By introducing Zenith, Fate: The Winx Saga could add an entirely new dimension to the show.
