Bruce Campbell is in London, which could mean he’s in Sam Raimi’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. The second solo film starring Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Stephen Strange has suffered a few setbacks at the hands of the coronavirus pandemic, as it was once scheduled for release in just a few months. However, due to some rescheduling, Doctor Strange 2 is currently slated to premiere in March 2022. Plot details are still being kept under wraps, but the final episodes of fellow Marvel project WandaVision could give some clues, as series star Elizabeth Olsen has a role in the movie.
Though Scott Derrickson was originally tapped to return as director for the second Doctor Strange, he departed the project in early 2020 over creative differences. Spider-Man director Raimi eventually took over, and fans are largely excited to see what he has planned for his latest foray into the Marvel universe. When Raimi was confirmed as director, Campbell seemingly expressed interest in joining Doctor Strange 2 on social media. Campbell and Raimi have frequently collaborated on projects, from the Evil Dead franchise to the various cameos Campbell put in for Raimi’s Spider-Man movies.
It’s because of their long-running partnership that Campbell’s latest social media post raises some questions. Campbell announced he’s in London by sharing a “Quarantine short film,” where he films a busy city intersection from what is presumably his hotel room. He didn’t offer any other clues for why he’s in London, but it’s worth mentioning that is where filming for Doctor Strange 2 is taking place.

Additionally, the fact that Campbell is quarantining hints he’s there for a project of some kind. It’s common practice these days for actors to quarantine for a couple of weeks when they first enter a new country before starting work, and if Campbell has just arrived to start on Doctor Strange 2, he’ll have to complete that ritual. Of course, this is all speculation at this point. Campbell could very well be in the city for another reason. It’s just that his past work with Raimi at least makes a Doctor Strange 2 role plausible.
Doctor Strange 2 will feature the returns of several characters from the first movie, including Wong (Benedict Wong) and Baron Mordo (Chiwetel Ejiofor). However, its villain has yet to be officially revealed. Fans have their ideas, which range from Nightmare to Mephisto. As Campbell initially expressed interest in playing the villain, one has to wonder if he’ll be stepping into either of those roles for Doctor Strange 2. Again, everything is speculation at the moment. Still, fans would be quite thrilled to see Campbell go up against Cumberbatch. Maybe they actually will, someday.
