A The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild player has found a Link animation that few others seem to have seen, despite the game having been out for years now. The massive size and scale of Nintendo‘s open-world masterpiece means that new elements are being found quite frequently. When the game launched in 2017 for the Nintendo Switch, no one quite knew how much content would be available in the world – many open-world games suffer from a lack of interesting content or collectibles. That turned out not to be the case with The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild: it’s filled with engaging quests, fun characters, and sometimes-maddening puzzles for players to solve.
Since the game’s release and extremely positive critical reception, players and community members have banded together to help each other see everything there is to see in the world of Hyrule. The subreddit for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild has become a treasure trove for completionists and casual fans alike, where fans work together to scour every inch of the game. For example, a recent guide to the game’s 900 Korok seed collectibles received a huge reception, prompting players to return to Hyrule and fill out their collection.
A new video on the same subreddit shows off Link animations that were previously unknown to much of the game’s player base. Player SpudDud17 posted a gameplay video that shows Link executing some of his charge attacks. These attacks normally require stamina. When Link’s stamina is empty, he still executes the attack, but he wobbles, stumbles, and makes a very tired expression while he does so. Each weapon type has a similar but subtly different animation depending on that weapon’s corresponding charge attack. In a comment response, SpudDud17 said that these strange attacks do still hit enemies, but they appear to be slower than normal charge attacks in the video. They said that they have “played this game since it came out,” but they just discovered these animations recently. The rest of the community was just as surprised as they were, with many fans noting that they expect new things to be found in the game for quite some time.
Much of fans’ surprise seems to be directed not only at the animations themselves, but at the fact that such a simple part of the game has gone unnoticed for so long. It’s learned instinct for most players to avoid attacking or seeking out enemies when Link’s stamina is low, so it’s unlikely that these animations are commonly seen, but enterprising players who have already completed all that the game has to offer can still find interesting interactions. As fans wait for the game’s teased sequel, they’re continuing to push and pull the game in unexpected ways, some of which result in literal fireworks.
This discovery is just another on a long list of new facets of the game that players have discovered since its release. As the commenters say, it’s extremely likely that there are more parts of the game that players have yet to see. As long as the community remains steadfast and dedicated in their search for new content, it’s safe to say that The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild will continue to show players even more interesting interactions in the future.
