Bling Empire: Shocking & Hilarious Social Media Posts From Loyal Fans
Interestingly enough, Bling Empire, which is about an extremely specific niche of very wealthy Asians and Asian-Americans living in Los Angeles, has incredible universal appeal. The cast members’ wealth is out-of-reach to most viewers, but the problems, heartaches, and friendships are engaging and genuine. The show’s humanity gives it a universal appeal. This unique balance is why the show tops Netflix’s charts around the world, and why fan reactions are so funny and memorable.
When the show first hit, most people expected a standard Selling Sunset or Keeping Up With the Kardashians, i.e., a show about wealthy people who go to brunch and get in petty fights and then spread wicked gossip behind each other’s backs. However, that’s not what Bling Empire turned out to be (not even for a hot second). Twitter user Jax Jones summed it up perfectly:

When we got so much more than we bargained for from Bling Empire, we were thrilled to talk about this exciting new show with anyone and everyone who was also watching. The truth is that we all want to part of this friend group. Fans want to be Anna Shay’s BFF or child (Kenny is so lucky). We all want to go Scooby-Doo’ing around Charleston, South Carolina with Kevin and Kane. Since we can’t, talking about our addiction with our friends absolutely does feel like the sentiment expressed in the tweet below (the tweet is accompanied by a gif of Anna Shay and her friend Florent laughing at a party):

Of course, the reactions to over-the-top wealth will never get old, but the mix of humility and extravagance is really what makes the show special. Breakout star Kane Lim is beloved for his humble personality; fans adore his kindness and his generosity. Though he was raised in Singapore by incredibly wealthy parents, Kane used a small loan from his father to make wise investments that eventually earned him millions by age 20. His now-infamous shoe collection is dazzling, and we love Kane, but can still understand why a fan added a gif that says, “Help Me, I’m Poor” to the tweet below:

While it seems impossible that anyone hasn’t heard of the great Kane Lim these days (and his family may not approve of his fame), there are some people out there who just don’t know him. This tweet about being unfamiliar with the Internet’s new best friend, whose followers include Rihanna, is just too good… click HERE to see the hilarious clip that goes with the tweet:

Though Bling Empire still hasn’t been renewed for a second season, we are all crossing our fingers. Do Kim and Kevin hook up? Will Christine use a surrogate to give Baby G a sister? What more does Anna Shay have to teach us? We feel the pain of the Twitter user featured below:
I need a Season 2 of Bling Empire like YESTERDAY.
